Maureen Bersuder-Mitchell


Artistic Director

Maureen Bersuder-Mitchell is a Native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She has been educating herself in dance since the age of 2. Mrs. Bersuder began her training in the New Orleans area where she was a member of several Dance Companies. In 1988, Mrs. Bersuder received her graduate teacher of dance certificate in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and acrobatics. Mrs. Bersuder continued to advance her dance career as she performed in dance companies in Chicago and Wisconson as well as Chatanooga, Tenesse in the 1990s. She has also had the opportunity to perform on television as one of the nations Top Young Dancers of the year in ballet, jazz, and tap. She also spent much time out of town educating herself under many dance master teachers in several states across the country since the age of 11. As a competitive dancers and teacher Mrs. Maureen has won, personally as well as her students, several Regional and National awards including Platinum Ballet Champions and Platinum Jazz Champions, along with many title awards. Mrs. Bersuder and her dedicated dancers have also earned numerous studio awards including outstanding choreography, performance, and judges awards in several areas in the United States. As a faculty member of Junior Miss Pageants, Mrs. Bersuder was a choreographer for several pageants in Louisiana and Mississippi on the State and Local levels. She has also judged many high school and college dance teams, dance competitions, and Dance Company auditions in the southeast and central united states. In 1999 she was accepted to membership into Dance Masters of America and Louisiana Association of Dance Masters. In 2002 Mrs. Bersuder and her dancers were interviewed and performed on the Rita Rutner Show on television. In 2012 Mrs. Bersuder was awarded the I Love Dance Teacher of the Year Award. For demonstrating excellent teacher skills in dance technique and dance performance.

Jody began her dance training at the age of 2 at Lea Brandin Dance Studio in New Orleans. She was extensively trained in ballet, tap and jazz. She began performing at Carnival Balls at the age of 7 until Ms. Brandin's retirement in 1988. While dancing for Ms. Brandin, she travelled for many years to Texas to perform and attend dance conventions. While in Texas she trained under Bruce Migilore, who performed on Broadway and in Las Vegas. Jody attended Southeastern Louisiana University and was enrolled in their Dance Program. In order to maintain her advance level of ballet and tap training, she was enrolled in private dance classes in the Hammond area. She was also a member of the Lionnette's Dance Team. Upon returning to the New Orleans area, Jody took master tap and jazz classes with Jack Payne of New York, along with resuming her dance education with Ms. Brandin. Her professional venue includes dancing floor shows, carnival balls and conventions for out of town visitors in and around the New Orleans area. During Jody's extensive dance career she has judged and choreographed for various talent shows and dance studios. Jody began teaching her love of dance at the age of 23 and before coming to MBADA, she taught at several studios in the New Orleans and surrounding areas.
